Grenada’s official Government Information Service reported that the House of Representatives voted to amend the Electronic Crimes Act 2013 by withdrawing three sections that various groups had criticised for their potentially harmful effects on press freedom and freedom of expression.
The Parliament of Grenada has approved legislation that would punish the sending of “offensive” electronic communications with up to one year in prison, Grenadian media reported.
A year after becoming the first Caribbean country to decriminalise libel, Grenada has appeared to take a step in the opposite direction by passing a sweeping cyber-crimes law that includes a provision for online defamation.
