Be part of this campaign. Read the profiles, tweet protest letters to relevant heads of state, share information about imprisoned journalists and help raise global awareness around the individuals who have been sent to jail simply for doing their jobs.
In 2013, according to research by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) 211 journalists were listed as imprisoned – the second highest number on record. WAN-IFRA’s 2014 Golden Pen of Freedom laureate, Ethiopian journalist Eskinder Nega, is one of those.
While Eskinder will become the focus of this campaign for 3 May and beyond, in the build-up to World Press Freedom Day WAN-IFRA will explore the issues surrounding the detention and imprisonment of journalists around the globe by highlighting individual cases that show why this is such a critical issue for press freedom worldwide.
