(RSF/IFEX) – In a letter to Vice-Minister of the Interior Ahmed Saïd Tamimi, RSF protested the way in which Palestinian police took to task a crew from the French television station, France 2. Robert Ménard, RSF’s secretary general, called on the vice-minister to “ensure that foreign television crews are able to work freely in the autonomous territories.”
According to information gathered by RSF, on 22 March 2000 a crew from France 2 was taken to task by the Palestinian police at the south entrance to the city of Bethlehem, which was welcoming Pope John Paul II. Because confrontations had occurred between Palestinians and the police, the officers forbid the crew from filming, and then confiscated a video cassette and searched the equipment vehicle for other cassettes.
