(WiPC/IFEX) – The trial hearing against publisher and poet Recep
Marasli, accused of membership in a pro-Kurdish organisation (see
IFEX alerts), was held on 2 October 1997 at the Ankara State
Security Court. During this hearing, defence lawyers pointed out
that Marasli was being tried for the same charges by another
court in Istanbul and urged that the two cases be amalgamated.
The Ankara State Security Court rejected a request from Marasli’s
lawyers that he be freed while the trial proceeds so as to
receive medical treatment. The trial was adjourned to 4 November.
