“What should be a day of celebration for Nicaraguan journalists is marked by repression, exile and enforced disappearances. While hundreds have fled the country, others face imprisonment or are still missing after being targeted by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo’s regime.”
The arrest of Leo Cárcamo and Elsbeth D’Anda, on top of the disappearance of Fabiola Tercero, demonstrates the escalating repression of independent journalism in Nicaragua.
On November 13, in Geneva, Switzerland, the review and adoption of the recommendations issued to the State of Nicaragua as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) will take place.
