Attack on the house of journalist S. Jayamanthamoorty
The FMM deplores and condemns the attack on the house of journalist S. Jayamanthamoorty on the night of 7 January 2003. Mr. S. Jayamanthamoorty is vice president of the East Lanka Journalists Association and a free lance journalist. A hand grenade was thrown into his house, which was set on fire by unknown persons, according to the East Lanka Journalists Association.
The FMM understands that Mr. S. Jayamanthamoorty had received several threats before this incident and police had been informed of those threats.
The FMM urgently requests that the government take immediate steps to hold an impartial inquiry on this matter and advise police to take the necessary steps to apprehend the perpetrators of this act.
