(JED/IFEX) – 14 October 2011 – Journaliste en Danger (JED) is exasperated by news of a new attack on a private media outlet on the night of 13 October 2011 in Kinshasa. JED calls on the police, which have been tasked with investigating the incident, to quickly clarify the circumstances under which it occurred.
According to testimony gathered by JED, Infos Lingala, an information segment produced in the local language by l’Agence Universal Média, was the target of the attack. Armed individuals entered the premises at around 2 a.m. on the night of 13 October and destroyed a part of the building’s roof and damaged equipment, including cameras, a scanner and a computer.

This recent attack comes one month after an arson attack against another private television station, Radio Lisanga Télévision (RLTV, pro-opposition). No information has been made public regarding the results of the investigation into this previous attack. JED considers that the lax approach of the judicial and political authorities in the face of the escalation in the number of violent attacks on the media is at the core of the current deterioration of the security situation for journalists and the media.
