(IRFS/IFEX) – Imprisoned “Azadlig” newspaper journalist-satirist Mirza Sakit’s health has seriously deteriorated.
Rana Zahidova, the wife of the imprisoned journalist, told IRFS on 2 January 2008 that she met with Sakit in the treatment facility of Prison 14, where he has been kept for some time. He suffers from chest pains and a leg affliction. “He has lost much weight,” she added.
IRFS spoke by telephone with Prison 14 chairman Arshad Hasanov regarding Sakit’s health. Hasanov refused to provide any information and advised IRFS to speak with the chairman of the Public Relations Department of the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, Mehman Sadigov. IRFS could not contact Sadigov due to his absence for holidays.
