Further, the Jang newspaper group has had its newsprint impounded, and
some of those who demonstrated about the Jang case were assaulted by
officers; many journalists have been charged with organising illegal
gatherings.
The diverse nature and scale of these assaults, which have been carried
out by state agents, suggest that officers believe their conduct is
acceptable, even desirable.
