SEEMO Expresses Concern After Two Reporters Threatened
VIENNA, May 22, 2012 – The Vienna-based South East Europe Media
Organisation (SEEMO), an affiliate of the International Press
Institute (IPI), today condemned physical threats made against two
Kosovo journalists on May 16 in the ethnically divided city of
Mitrovica, in northern Kosovo.
Protesters threatened to attack journalists Musa Mustafa of the
Pristina-based daily Koha Ditore and Alidin Damati of the Kosova press
agency, but police managed to avert the imminent aggression. According
to SEEMO sources, the journalists were obliged to flee and police
intervened at the last minute. However, the journalists accused police
and international forces (KFOR) stationed in Kosovo of having taken a
lenient attitude when the threats began.
SEEMO Secretary General Oliver Vujovic said: “I urge the authorities
to investigate this case of intimidation of journalists. Journalists
should be allowed to do their work freely and I call on both the
police authorities and KFOR to protect journalists and to enable them
to do their work.”

SEEMO to Open Conference in Moldova
Third Annual South, East and Central Europe Investigative Journalism
Days to Take Place in Chisinau from May 23 to 25
VIENNA, May 22, 2012 – The Vienna-based South East Europe Media
Organisation (SEEMO), an affiliate of the International Press
Institute (IPI), is set tomorrow to kick off its annual conference
dedicated to investigative reporting, The III South, East and Central
Europe Investigative Journalism Days, in Chisinau, Moldova.
The conference is scheduled to take place from May 23 to 25 with the
financial support of the Austrian Development Cooperation agency and
in cooperation with the European Association of Regional Television
(CIRCOM) and the Chisinau-based daily Ziarul de Garda.
The conference, focusing on different aspects of reporting on
corruption and crime, will be inaugurated by Moldovan Prime Minister
Vlad Filat. The opening ceremony will also include SEEMO Secretary
General Oliver Vujovic, CIRCOM Regional Training Project Manager Karol
Cioma, Boris Bergant from the European Broadcasting Union-Special
Assistance Project (EBU-SAP), Ziarul de Garda Director Alina Radu,
Gerhard Schaumberger from the Austrian Development Agency in Chisinau
and EBU Vice President Claudio Cappon.
