(JED/IFEX) – On 8 February 2000, Polycarpe Honsek Hokwoy, publisher of the Kinshasa newspaper “La Solidarité”, lodged an appeal against the Kinshasa/Gombe Court’s decision against him. The journalist believes that “a poor decision was rendered in all the clauses of the case.”
On 29 January, Honsek was sentenced to three months imprisonment with no parole for “damaging accusations”. He was released on 4 February. The journalist was first arrested on 6 November 1999 for having falsely announced the arrest of Minister of Finance Mawampanga Mwana Nanga on the front page of an edition of his newspaper.
