(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the arrest of Mohammed Abdel Sid, a
correspondent in Khartoum of the London-based Arabic daily “Asharq
Al-Awsat”.
According to RSF’s information, the journalist was arrested on 14 April 1999
by security forces at his home in Khartoum. This is the third time that
Abdel Sid has been detained. The previous occasions were for five months in
1993 and for three months in 1995, when he was not charged by the judiciary.
The Khartoum office of “Asharq Al-Awsat” was closed in 1993 with no official
explanation offered.
