(CPJ/IFEX) – On 18 April 1998, Andre Ipakakala, editor and proprietor of the
independent newspaper “La Reference Plus”, was arrested by security
officers. CPJ sources stated that the arrest is believed to be in connection
with an article printed in “La Reference Plus” which reported on the
discovery of mass graves and holding cells in the home of Mr. Kallon Ji
Mutuambayi, a politician and business man currently residing in South
Africa.
Authorites have not charged Ipakakala nor have they provided any information
regarding his arrest or whereabouts.
