(RSF/IFEX) – In a 17 September 1999 letter to President Arafat, RSF
expressed its concern over the reported arrest of Maher Adisouki, a
journalist for the private Al-Nasser TV, who on 15 September was arrested by
Ramallh Security Service agents when they raided the Arab Cultural House.
RSF expressed its alarm over this arrest and condemned the arrest of a
journalist because of his activities as a reporter. The organisation urged
President Arafat to “use his influence to ensure that press freedom is
guaranteed in the Palestinian Authority, as defined in the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.”
