a journalist with the Arab language daily newspaper “Al-Ittihad”, was
assaulted by a person at the newspaperâs premises. After having threatened
her, the man, who is apparently close to the Islamist circles in Israel,
spilled a chemical liquid on Chihadeâs hands, causing skin lesions, and
threw an ashtray at her head before running off.
The police were immediately notified, but took more than twenty minutes to
arrive at the newspaperâs head office, even though the nearest police
station is only a few dozen meters from “Al-Ittihad.” Chihade was
hospitalized, but her injuries are minor, according to the doctors who
examined her. “Al-Ittihad”âs journalists had been receiving anonymous
threats for several days when the assault occurred.
