(RSF/IFEX) – In a letter to Foreign Affairs Minister Youssef Yousfi, RSF protested the fact that on 11 May 2000 Taoufik Ben Brik, a Tunisian journalist, was not allowed to board his Air Algérie flight from Paris to Algeria. Robert Ménard, RSFâs secretary-general, called on the minister to give an explanation for the decision, which in effect constitutes a denial of entry into Algeria for Taoufik Ben Brik, who is on his 39th day of a hunger strike.”
The organisation is surprised by this incident. Ben Brik, a Tunisian citizen, does not need a visa to enter Algeria. His passport is valid and he possessed an airplane ticket with reservations. Ben Brik was attempting to go to Algeria, where he was going to end his hunger strike.
