According to a local journalist, Robert Shemahamba is under arrest for having allowed his radio guests to criticise the Head of State's speech.
(JED/IFEX) – Journaliste en Danger (JED) condemns the detention of Radio Mitumba journalist Robert Shemahamba in an underground cell of the National Intelligence Agency (Agence Nationale des Renseignements, ANR) in the town of Uvira (Sud-Kivu province). The official reason for his detention is unknown.
Robert Shemahamba was arrested on 17 December 2010 by the ANR. According to a local journalist, Shemahamba is under arrest for having allowed his radio guests to criticise the Head of State’s speech made on 8 December during a joint session of parliament in Kinshasa.
According to the same sources, on 12 December, Shemahamba hosted the show “Franc Parler” (“Speak your Mind”) during which he spoke to journalists from the local press. He was summonded to the ANR and subsequently detained.
