(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the expulsion from Guinea of a journalist
from the weekly “L’Oeil” (The Eye). According to RSF’s information, Don de
Dieu Agoussou, a journalist of Beninese nationality, was expelled on 29
January 1999. On that day, he had gone to the Gbessia Conakry airport to
cover the arrival of foreign heads of state, invited to the swearing in
ceremony of President Lansana Condé. He was detained in the airport and
expelled via a Ghana Airways flight to Benin. The journalist had previously
received a warning by police services, notably the Direction de la
surveillance du territoire (counter-espionnage services), after the 29 July
1998 publication of an article entitled “Power – journalist, what future?”
