(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is expressing concern further to the harassment of Michel
Museme Diawe, editor-in-chief of Congolese National Radio-Television (Radio
Télévision Nationale Congolaise, RTNC). According to RSF’s information, on
26 January 1999, the journalist was forced out of his residence. The
soldiers explained to him that his apartment had been allocated to the
office of the President. Having checked with relevant authorities, it would
appear that the journalist’s residence does not in fact appear on the lists
of those reserved for the head of state’s entourage.
**Updates IFEX alert of 3 December 1998**
RSF fears that this harassment is linked to Michel Museme Diawe’s
professional activities. He has previously been arrested and suspended
numerous times because of his on-air opinions. In November 1998, he was
jailed for eight days at the Kokolo military camp (in Kinshasa).
