(RSF/IFEX) – According to RSF’s information, on 2 February 1999, Monir
Hossain, a reporter with the daily “Dainik Sathkirar Chitra” based in
Sathkira, was arrested by policemen after his newspaper reported on
illegal trade by gangs across the India-Bangladesh border. According to
reports, it seems that the journalist was arrested after “a fake
warrant” was issued by a court in Dhaka and reached the police station.
Hossain remains in jail on 9 February.
