(MFWA/IFEX) – On 9 February 2007, two unknown assailants shot and killed news editor, Samuel Enin, from Ash FM, a local radio station based in Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana. Enin was also the Ashanti Regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).
Two others, Kojo Fosu, who is a driver at the radio station, and another person identified only as Kofi, sustained wounds in the attack in Pankrono Estate, a suburb of Kumasi, following indiscriminate shooting by the assailants.
The assailants, whose motives are yet to be established, took two cellular phones belonging to the victims.
The police have since launched investigations into the killing.
Meanwhile, the GJA has offered a reward of 10 million Cedis (approx. US$1,100) for anyone who helps to locate or identify the murderers.
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) encourages the public to support the GJA’s efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The MFWA condemns this heinous and brutal act in the strongest terms. The organisation demands a high-level inquiry into the incident so that the real motive of the killers can be unearthed.
