The incident took place while Susilbabu Shrestha was covering a story about discussions between Moaist factions regarding a food transportation contract.
(FNJ/IFEX) – The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is concerned over the mistreatment of journalist Susilbabu Shrestha, the president of the FNJ’s Gorkha Chapter, on 15 August 2011. Shrestha was manhandled by a Maoist activist, Manu Gurung, while he was covering a news story about tense discussions between Moaist factions regarding a food transportation contract in the northern part of the district of Gorkha. The incident took place when Shrestha was taking a picture of the people involved in the negotiations.
FNJ strongly condemns this incident and urges the local administration and the Maoists’ district leader to ensure that Gurung is appropriately disciplined.
