(RSF/IFEX) – On 6 December 1997, Pontien Tshisungu, a journalist
with the broadcaster RTNC, was arrested and detained at Goma
central prison. The arrest of Tshisungu is said to be linked to
the disclosure of an attempted attack on Minister of the Interior
Mwenze Kongolo during a trip by the minister to the Nord-Kivu
region as well as to Rwanda. Tshisungu was part of the entourage
that accompanied Kongolo.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to authorities:
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 19 of which
guarantees the right to inform and to be informed
taken by Zaire in the international community, and, consequently,
to make public the reasons for the arrest of Pontien Tshisungu
and to do everything in their power to obtain his release
