(IAPA/IFEX) – This week, Cuban authorities refused to grant journalist Raul
Rivera, who is vice-president of IAPA’s Cuba branch, permission to leave
Cuba temporarily. Rivera, who is also current president of the Cuba Press
news agency and a recognized poet, had received an invitation to travel to
Spain, but immigration authorities refused to authorise permission for the
journalist to go.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to authorities:
American Convention on Human Rights, which states that “every person has the
right to leave freely from any country, including one’s own”; and violates
section 1 of Article 13 of the same document, which states that “every
person has the right to freedom of thought and expression”
respected, and that Raul Rivera be allowed to leave the country whenever he
needs to
