JOURNALIST UNDER THREAT
Another journalist has received death threats from a group of terrorists. The threats are believed to originate with the active leader of the Chattra League, the student wing of the opposition Awami League.
Tareq Murtaza, the Dhaka University correspondent for the daily Manavzamin, received death threats from a group using the Chattra League’s name. In a report published today, the daily Manavzamin noted that the terrorists threatened to kill the journalist. They also called the newspaper office in order to threaten the reporter.
Murtaza recently wrote an investigative report about a pornographic compact disc that was produced by Chattra League leader Rukon. Exploiting his girlfriend, Rukon recorded a lovemaking scene, produced it on a compact disc and put it for sale on the market. Murtaza disclosed the story in his report. The Chattra League leader was angered by Murtaza and claimed that the journalist’s report tarnished his organisation’s image.
