(IFJ/IFEX) – The IFJ is concerned about the refusal of the Israeli Civil
Coordinating Committee to renew the travel permit of Kawther Salaam.
According to the IFJ’s information, Salaam has not had any problems with her
travel permit for the past eight years. She holds an Israeli Government
Press Card (006936). The apparent reason for not renewing her permit is that
she reported in the “Al Hayat” newspaper that the Israeli authorities had
failed to implement decisions by the Israeli High Court.
The IFJ is concerned by the decision of the Civil Coordinating Committee,
which is apparently due to unhappiness with her work as a journalist. This
is most unacceptable and amounts to unacceptable censorship. This also
clearly restricts Salaam’s freedom of movement. Salaam also holds the IFJ
International Press Card which establishes her as a bona fide journalist.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to authorities:
