magazine “Tell”, was released during the week of 6 April 1998. State
Security Service (SSS) agents interrogated Nmodu about the whereabouts of
his editors, all of whom are currently either in hiding or in detention.
Nmodu was warned to refrain from writing stories for “Tell” deemed
inflammatory by the SSS.

Background Information
Nmodu was arrested by seven members of the State Security Service (SSS) in
Kaduna on 27 March 1998. The operatives stormed his residence at about 5:30
and arrested him. After transporting Nmodu in a Peugeot station-wagon to the
“Tell” editorial office in Kaduna where they searched the office and removed
copies of previous editions of “Tell”, the agents took him to SSS
Headquarters in Kaduna where he was held incommunicado.
