(JED/IFEX) – Richard Nsamba Olangi, publisher of the pro-governmental biweekly “Le Messager Africain”, was released on Friday 7 July 2000. He had been detained since 12 June.
To recall, on 14 June, Nsamba Olangi was taken to the Kinshasa Central Prison (CPRK), after spending two days in a cell at the Kinshasa/Gombe public prosecutor’s office. He was accused of publishing a series of articles, in issues 127 and 128 of his newspaper, about an audience granted in early April to a delegation of traditional chiefs, led by the former governor of West Kasaï province. The incriminating articles notably denounced “the deceit” and “the hoax” orchestrated by the former governor, by which he brought along a number of individuals who were not traditional chiefs to the meeting, including his own sister.
