(RSF/IFEX) – According to information collected by RSF, Albert-Baudoin Twizeyimana, a journalist with Radio Rwanda, was released at the beginning of February 2000. However, this is only a provisional release. The journalist had been detained at the Kigali central prison since 10 May 1996 because he was accused of having participated in the genocide in the region of Kibungo, where he is originally from. Four people allegedly accuse him of having killed a Tutsi woman.
RSF has never been able to confirm the reasons for Twizeyimana’s incarceration with certainty. The organisation has long asked that the journalist receive a fair and impartial trial.
