(IJC/IFEX) – Major Adeyi, the assistant editor of “Tell” magazine who was arrested by police on 3 February 2000, has been released.
He was released on 4 February after making a statement indicating to police that his interview with Senator Joseph Kennedy Waku was conducted in Jos and recorded on an audio cassette. The interview had led to his initial arrest. Adeyi said that he was asked to confirm what he had written, which he did, and that he stood by all the information that was published in the magazine.
However, embattled Senator Waku, whose interview carried by “Tell” magazine credited him with the call for a military take-over, has threatened court action against the magazine. He said he was suing the magazine over what he termed “misrepresentation of view.”
