Thierry Ndayishimiye is accused of "defamation" relating to the director general of the national electricity company.
(JED/IFEX) – Journaliste en danger (JED) welcomes the provisional release of Thierry Ndayishimiye, editor of the Bujumbura-based private weekly “Arc-en-ciel” (“Rainbow”), after two days in detention at Mpimba prison. Ndayishimiye was released on 12 August 2010 by a Mpimba prison guard; his lawyer had not made an official request for release.
Arrested on orders of the deputy public prosecutor on 10 August, Ndayishimiye is accused of “defamation” relating to Celestine Nduwamungu, director general of the National Board of Water and Electricity (Régie Nationale d’Eau et d’Electricité, REGIDESO).
