(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is deeply alarmed by the postponement of the release of
Mohammed Abdel Sid, a correspondent in Khartoum of the London-based Arabic
daily “Asharq Al-Awsat”, who was arrested on 14 April 1999 under the
national security law.
**Updates IFEX alert of 16 April 1999**
Despite an official announcement on 28 April by the Sudan News Agency, his
release has yet to occur. On 18 April, two other journalists were arrested
and freed later.
There are allegations that the journalist has been tortured and taken to
Kobar hospital in Khartoum.
