(NDIMA/IFEX) – Gacheru Kamau, a journalist from the “People Daily”, based in the Molo Division of Nakuru District, in the Rift Valley, was released on a bond of Kshs 50,000 (approx. US$636) after presenting himself to a Nakuru court, fearing arrest over a story he wrote last week.
Kamau was released by Chief Magistrate Gladys Ndeda to await further police instruction after his lawyer, Juma Kiplenge, made the application for his release. The journalist had learned that police were looking for him over his story on leadership wrangles within the ruling KANU party’s local sub-branch.
