(Periodistas/IFEX) – PERIODISTAS is reporting the harassment of journalist
Pedro Scarano. Scarano, director of the publications “Bajando Noticias” and
“Identidad Virtual”, reported the threats and harassment that he and his
family have received. In recent days, Scarano has been the target of
threatening telephone calls and his personal telephone lines have been
wiretapped. The journalist has also being followed, putting his and his
family’s safety at risk.
This new incident is another in a series of six attacks and forty threats
which the journalist has been subject to since March 1996. At that time,
Scarano had reported many irregularities in the scholarship programmes
awarded to non-governmental organisations by the National Committee of
Minors and Families (C.N.M y F.), then directed by Atilio Alvarez.
PERIODISTAS is urging the justice system and security organisations to
investigate and shed light on these alarming threats against Scarano and his
family, which testify to the culture of impunity in Argentina.
