**Updates IFEX alerts dated 4 July and 9 June 1995**
Journalist Zafaryab Ahmad (also reported as Zaffaryab Ahmed) has
been released on medical bail, but may be required to return to
prison within the next few weeks despite his ill-health. Ahmad
was freed at the end of July so that he could receive treatment
for a heart complaint. At least one earlier application for
medical bail was unsuccessful. His present bail order expires on
23 September 1995, when he could be forced to return to prison.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to Pakistani authorities:
on charges of sedition, which appear to be without foundation
involvement in, and reporting on, bonded labour issues
in ill-health, he may be required to return to prison
