(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the decision by the National Council on
Communications (Conseil national de la communication, CNC), to revoke the
accreditation of a Guinean journalist, a correspondent with two foreign
media organisations. According to RSF’s information, Mouctar Ba, a
correspondent of Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Radio France Internationale
(RFI), had his accreditation annuled on 24 December 1998. In a letter to AFP
and RFI management, Emile Tompapa, President of the CNC, justified this
decision based on the “tendentious, whimsical and malicious character of the
information” reported by the journalist. Moreover, this decision runs
counter to the CNC’s own charter (article 25, section 2), since Mouctar Ba
was not given the opportunity to respond directly to the CNC’s accusations.
