MADA condemned an attack on the media by Jewish settlers.
(MADA/IFEX) – The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) expresses strong condemnation of an attack carried out by Jewish settlers on Reuters agency cameraman Hassan Teeti and photographer Abdul Rahim Qusini. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 7 August 2009, in the village of Eraq Burin (Nablus), while they were covering a march by village residents protesting attempts by settlers to seize hundreds of acres of their land.
Teeti, who is also a correspondent for Al Jazeera television, said that they were covering the march by the villagers when he was attacked by three settlers. One of them tried to grab his camera, resulting in a slight wound to his right hand; another settler attacked Qusini, while an Israeli soldier attacked his assistant, Ashraf Abu Shawish, as soldiers demanded that the journalists move away from the site.
For years, settlers have been attacking Palestinians and their property and targeting journalists. In October 2008, they attacked five cameramen and photographers in the Hebron area.
