(MFWA/IFEX) – On 30 December 2008 a group of journalists from Accra and Kumasi were on driven out of a press conference organized by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential candidate.
Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA)’s correspondent reported that about 10 journalists, all of whom are from the electronic media, had gone to Nana Akufo-Addo’s residence following an invitation to cover his next line of action after the Electoral Commission had announced the results of the run-off elections held on 28 December.
The correspondent said GTV, the state television station, was the first to be driven out by an official of the party. At the dismissal of GTV’s crew, the party supporters also started driving out all the journalists in the house.
The affected journalists were from Joy FM, Adom FM, Oman FM, GTV and Metro TV in Accra and Angel FM and Kesseben FM in Kumasi.
