Journalist Nufouth Al-Bakri discovered that most of her media tools were stolen, while more valuable items had been left behind.
(MADA/IFEX) – The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) condemns the house raid of Alhayat Aljadedah correspondent Nufouth Al-Bakri in Khanyounis in the south of Gaza Strip. The incident took place on the night of 21 September 2010 by unknown people.
Al-Bakri said that the police of the dismissed government called her at 1:30 a.m. on the morning of 22 September 2010 and told her that they found the door to her house open. When she went home, the door was broken and most of her media tools were stolen, such as her fax machine, phone, agenda and some press papers.
Al-Bakri added, “The reason for the raid was not robbery. Everything that is missing is used only for my journalistic work. There were a lot of valuable things inside my house that were not stolen.”
It should be mentioned that Al-Bakri’s house has been raided several times since the beginning of 2010 by the Internal Security Services of the dismissed government and by unknown persons. The previous incident was on 25 April.
MADA condemns this new attack on Al-Bakri’s house and demands that the relevant authorities identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
