(JED/IFEX) – On Thursday 6 April 2006, in the late afternoon, managing editor Jean-Pierre Pambu Lutete, of the Kinshasa-based “La Tolérance”, was released. This was possible after JED (Journaliste en Danger) posted US$40 in bail.
On 3 March, Lutete was arrested; he was transferred on the following day to the Kinshasa central prison, the “Centre Pénitiaire et de réeducation de Kinshasa” (CPRK).The journalist was charged with defamation and incitement of tribal hatred against Michel Zingo te Lando, a public land officer for Kinshasa/Funa.
On 9 March, at a meeting with Reporters Without Borders and JED, the two organizations received President Josesh Kabila’s word on the release of Pambu Lutete and “L’Éclaireur” editor-in-chief Jean-Louis Ngalamulume.
