in Vietnam to mark the 2 September Independence Day. PEN Writers in Prison
Committee is able to confirm that the following writers and journalists were
included in the amnesty:

DANG Phuc Tue (religious name:THICH Quang Do)
LE Manh That (known as Ven. Thich Tri Sieu)
PHAM Van Thuong (commonly known as Ven. Thich Tue Sy)
Doan Viet Hoat has joined his wife and family in the US, while the other
four are believed to remain in Vietnam. There is as yet no comprehensive
list of all those who have been released, and it is believed that at least
one other writer was also released.
