(RSF/IFEX) – Further to its 12 February 1999 letter, RSF is vigorously
protesting the abduction of Mahmoud Jalloul, a cameraman with the
official television station Télé Liban, on 11 February.
**Updates IFEX alert of 12 February 1999**
The Lebanese Security Services are allegedly implicated in this
violation of the basic rights of every Lebanese citizen. The journalist
is accused of “collaborating with Israel.” As RSF explains, this
presumption does not justify the employed methods. Jalloul has not been
called before a court, nor has he been officially accused of any crime.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to the Prime Minister:
trial, in the presence of a lawyer, and banning the use of torture to
obtain “confessions” which, as such, have no legal basis
unconditionally
be held responsible for infractions committed by the Security Services
