Police closed all internet cafés in the city following the blasts.
(PPF/IFEX) – Six people were injured when low-intensity time-bombs exploded in two internet cafes in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s largest province of Punjab, on Saturday, July 17, 2010.
The blasts occurred within a span of 10 minutes. The first explosion took place at Crown Internet Café at 4:10 p.m. and the blast injured three persons. The windowpanes, computers, accessories and furniture were destroyed in the blast. The owner of Crown Internet Café, Arshad, said he had received two SMS messages from unknown numbers in which the sender had threatened to blow up the café.
The second blast occurred at Fast Internet Café within 10 minutes of the first blast, injuring the owner Naveed Khan, 35, two customers, who were moved to the Mayo Hospital Lahore. The café was completely destroyed in the blast that also created a crater.
The police teams closed all internet cafés in the city following the blasts.
An organisation by the name of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Haqooq-e-Pakistan (Movement for the Protection of the Rights of Pakistan) claimed responsibility for the blasts and termed it a move against “immoral activities” at Internet cafés.
