Sanna Camara and Saikou Jammeh were held for about two hours after they reportedly took photos of a beach without authorisation.
(MFWA/IFEX) – Sanna Camara and Saikou Jammeh, reporters with the privately-owned, Banjul-based “The Daily News”, were on March 17, 2009 arrested and detained by military officers with the Tourism Security Unit (TSU) of the Gambia Armed Forces while on an editorial assignment at a tourist site.
Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) sources reported that the two were detained for about two hours after being accused of taking photographs of the beach without authorisation.
The sources said the two were released after signing an undertaking not to write any negative stories about the visit.
