(IFJ/IFEX) – The IFJ is concerned over the current legal proceedings against “Al Ayyam” newspaper. According to the IFJâs information, “Al Ayyam” was called before the Media Prosecutor on 7 March 2000 to face a complaint from the Ministry of Information concerning articles published on 26 and 27 February, and 4 March, respectively.
The IFJ is deeply concerned at suggestions that this action is part of a campaign being waged against the newspaper by the chief of police in Aden. The organisation believes that the independence of media and the editorial freedom of journalists are essential in all societies.
