On 1 September 2019, Nabeel Rajab will be spending his 4th consecutive birthday imprisoned in Bahrain. Just the latest in a series of spurious charges and jail sentences for the renowned human rights defender.
On 13 June 2016, security forces arrested leading human rights defender Nabeel Rajab on charges of “insulting a statutory body” and “spreading false rumours in times of war” for statements he gave in TV interviews, and tweets he shared about the war in Yemen. Ever since, he has been serving a combined sentence of 7 years in prison for those charges.
Over the years, Nabeel’s colleagues from around the world have tirelessly campaigned for his immediate and unconditional release. Today, our message to him and to Bahraini authorities is that we shall not stop until he is free. IFEX stands with Nabeel.
