The United Nations describes itself as “the world’s platform to build understanding between nations, find ways to cooperate, and launch coordinated action on problems that transcend borders, from terrorism to climate change to pandemics.”
To fulfil its mandate, it needs to make sure diverse and expert voices are represented. As a global network, IFEX is well-placed to facilitate this – but we, like so many other rights organisations, have been hampered by politicised delays in obtaining UN accreditation.
It’s time to change that. In April, when elections to the UN Committee on NGOs take place, there’s an opportunity to change the gatekeepers.
As part of IFEX’s participation in the International Service for Human Rights “Open the Doors to NGOs” campaign, this video explains how IFEX plays a key role bringing trustworthy information, expertise and perspectives to UN human rights mechanisms.
