(MISA/IFEX) – On 26 October 2000, the new broadcasting regulations were scheduled to be tabled before the Parliamentary Legal Committee, to verify their compliance with the constitution.
Commenting on reports made by the “Financial Gazette” on 19 October, to the effect that the regulations had been declared illegal by the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Minister of State for Information and Publicity Jonathan Moyo denounced the assertions as “totally unfounded and a gross fabrication.” The minister added that: “I am surprised that what was publicised by the ‘Financial Gazette’, and was purported to be the work of the Parliamentary Legal Committee was similar to a harmless and statusless document handed to me by Cde Eddison Zvobgo on the subject.”
