(IPYS/IFEX) – A new legal case was opened against the former president of
Frecuencia Latina, Baruch Ivcher Bronstein, by the Taxation Offences Court.
Ivhcer is accused of misuse of capital resources and fraud in his
administration of legal matters, causing harm to the television station.
**For background on other cases against Ivcher see IFEX alerts of 16 June, 9
April, 6 April, 22 March, 9 March 1999 and others**
Also implicated in this case are the former general manager of Frecuencia
Latina, Alberto Ortega Cabello, and Venezuelan businessmen Jesús Trapiello
Gonzales and César Díaz Belisario. While the trial takes place, all of the
accused are mandated to appear in court, face restrictions on their free
movement, and are required to pay a judicial guarantee bond of US$3,000
each.
According to taxation lawyer Hilda Valladares Alarcon, Ivcher and the other
defendants misappropriated US$1 million, which were marked for the
production of a soap opera programme in Venezuela. The charge also states
that Ivcher did not get authorisation from the other directors of the
television station on how he was going to use the US$1 million, considering
that in the end the soap opera never did go into production.
This latest case against the Peruvian-Israeli businessman is the sixth
criminal case he is currently facing, five of which originate in the
Taxation Crimes Court. To date, there are four orders for Ivcher’s capture
under national and international jurisdiction, and he is considered to be in
contempt of court for failing to appear at scheduled hearings.
