(AMARC/IFEX) – According to the Association of Independent Electronic Media
(ANEM), on 22 July 1998, Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and his
spouse Mirjana Markovic attended the launch of a new TV station in the
family–TV Kosava (on the 45th channel), run by the presidential couple’s
daughter, Marija Milosevic. This is the continuation of the expansion of the
daughter’s media empire (in addition to her radio that has been operating
for four years). The president and his wife have recently attended the
opening of Radio Fan in Pozarevac, owned by their son. To ANEM’s knowledge,
TV Kosava is not in the list of stations which were granted licences in the
first round of the frequency tender.
36 applications by ANEM affiliates have still not been granted broadcast
licences, while two stations (Radio City and Radio Globus) have not even
received any response from the Yugoslav Telecommunications Ministry as
regards their applications. Radio Index is currently being blocked by two
radio stations’ frequencies that have been relocated on the FM band in order
to make space for Interspeed Radio, whose founding is also linked with the
Family (for background information on broadcasting frequency allocation
regulation, see IFEX alerts of 2 June, 20 and 15 May 1998).
